Los Ángeles.-  La película The Banshees of Inisherin del director angloirlandés Martin McDonagh, encabeza con ocho nominaciones la 80ª edición de los Globos de Oro, según anunció este lunes la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood (HFPA, por su sigla en inglés).

Al filme protagonizado por Colin Farrell le sigue Everything Everywhere All at Once, de Dan Kwan y Daniel Scheinert, con seis nominaciones, mientras que Babylon, de Damien Chazelle, y The Fabelmans, de Steven Spielberg, continúan como favoritos al haber alcanzado cinco candidaturas cada una.

Las películas que competirán por el Globo de Oro a la mejor cinta dramática son Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár y Top Gun: Maverik.

Mientras que a mejor película de comedia o musical los contendientes son Babylon, The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Glass Onion: A Knives out Mystery y Triangle of Sadness.

La disputa a mejor dirección la tendrán James Cameron por Avatar, Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert por Everything Everywhere All at Once, Baz Luhrmann por Elvis, Martin McDonagh por The Banshees of Inisherin y Steven Spielberg por The Fabelmans.

La representación latina en el apartado de cine de esta edición corre a cargo del mexicano Guillermo del Toro con tres nominaciones a su filme Pinocchio, que buscará los títulos de mejor canción original, mejor película animada y mejor banda sonora.

Asimismo, el filme del argentino Santiago Mitre Argentina, 1985 fue nominado a mejor película de lengua no inglesa, al lado de All Quiet on the Western Front (Alemania), Close (Bélgica, Francia, Países Bajos), Decision to Leave (Corea del sur) y RRR (India).

A diferencia de los premios Óscar en los que cada país propone el filme que los representará para mejor película internacional, los Globos de Oro seleccionan por su cuenta los trabajos que serán votados.

El mexicano Diego Calva obtuvo una nominación por su papel en Babylon a la categoría de mejor actor de musical o comedia junto a Daniel Craig (Glass Onion), Adam Driver (White Noise), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) y Ralph Fiennes (The Menu).

Mientras que el mejor actor de drama se lo disputan Austin Butler por su interpretación de Elvis Presley, Brendan Fraser con su transformación física para The Whale, Hugh Jackman por The Son, Bill Nighy por Living, y Jeremy Pope por The Inspection.

La cubana Ana de Armas (Blonde) contiende por el título de mejor actriz de drama con Cate Blanchett (Tár), Olivia Colman (Empire of Light), Viola Davis (The Woman King) y Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans).

Y Ana Taylor Joy (The Menu), Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harries Goes to Paris), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) y Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) recibieron una nominación a mejor actriz de comedia o musical.

En 2021, el periódico Los Ángeles Times sacó a la luz una investigación que revelaba que algunos de los entonces 87 miembros de la HFPA ni si quiera trabajaban en algún medio de comunicación y que entre ellos no había ningún votante negro.

Además, cuestionaba la legitimidad de los premios debido a los regalos que algunos asociados recibían por parte de los estudios y el escándalo generó que la última edición de la entrega de premios se llevara a cabo en privado y sin la usual difusión por parte de la cadena de televisión de NBC.

Aunque la HFPA ha llevado a cabo ciertos cambios desde entonces, el regreso de los premios supone la incertidumbre del recibimiento por parte de la industria, pues en el pasado varias personalidades expresaron su enojo y se posicionaron en contra del evento.

Los Globos de Oro se llevarán a cabo el 10 de enero en el hotel Hilton de Bevery Hills (California) y serán transmitidos nuevamente por la cadena de NBC.
